Thread: Akino's vocals in the Westlake tapes... (OMG??)

Started by weepy_Jai on May 15, 2026
I literally cannot stop listening to the 1988 Westlake demo of Deep in the Night. Akino's harmonies are completely insane?! Like, knowing Michael Jackson was in the room while she laid down these vocals makes it feel so historic.

Does anyone have a higher-quality rip of the background synths around the 2-minute mark? It sounds very proto-Frutiger Aero and I'm losing my mind. Help an eternity stan out!!! 😭

Check the 2025 Remaster section on the main site! I uploaded the lossless FLAC instrumental stems yesterday. The synth programmer used a vintage Yamaha DX7 combined with a Roland D-50 to get that precise watery chime texture. It really showcases why their late-80s sound was so ahead of its time.
